The Dizziness Handicap Inventory was first publised in 1990 in the journal Archives of Otolaryngology. It is a 25-item measure used to evaluate an individual's physical, emotional, and functional response to dizziness. The measure is calculated by summing the scores from each of the 25 questions.

DHI Scoring Instructions The patient is asked to answer each question as it pertains to dizziness or unsteadiness problems, specifically considering their condition during the last month. Questions are designed to incorporate functional (F), physical (P), and emotional (E) impacts on disability. To each item, the following scores can be assigned:
