Chorionic gonadotropin binds on the ovarian theca (and granulosa) cells to a transmembrane receptor shared with the luteinising hormone, the LH/CG receptor.

Using this medicine increases therisk of developing Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS), a condition whereovaries get enlarged. Pregnancy outside the womb (ectopic pregnancy) might occur with this medicine.

It is a hormonal injection that is given intramuscularly or under the skin.
