But I grew up with the people around me calling our eyes “chinky” as an English translation for how we’d normally describe our eye shape in the vernacular. I’m part-Chinese, so the people I’m referring to are also mostly part-Chinese.

My friend uses what I perceive to be an ethnic slur, 'chinky' to describe her eyes. She is quarter asian, but wasn't raised with any asian influence. I am a white, but am kind of offended by her casual use of the word since I associate it as an ethnic slur. I called her on using it and she got defensive and we got into a fight about it.

No good will come from calling someone chinky, kaalu, bihari, kalua, gawar, etc. Doesn’t matter the direction, North-South-East-West, we are all Indians first and we should treat each other like our family. My South Indian brothers are as important to me as my North Indian brothers, so are my Eastern & Western brothers.
