Why Camp Howard? Since 1953, kids have been coming to a fun, spiritual outdoor camp to make new friends, build self-confidence, develop new skills, and try new activities in a safe, forested setting with a view of Mount Hood and Bull Run watershed.

Camp Howard was founded in 1952 through a private property donation by the Horton family who wanted to do something beneficial for Catholic youth in Oregon. The camp is operated by the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) and it offers recreational summer camp programs to all youth ages 8-17 during the months of July and August.

Camp Howard is named for Archbishop Edward D. Howard, the 5th Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Port-land who served as Archbishop from 1926 until 1966. Camp Howard was established in 1952 as a residential youth camp in response to the wishes of the property donors who desired to do something for the youth of the church.

Set amidst forests on the flanks of Mt. Hood, Camp Howard has been providing youth from all walks of life with unforgettable outdoor experiences since 1953. In the Spring and Fall, thousands of Portland area students escape the city for a transformational week at Camp Howard for Outdoor School.

Camp Howard is the youth camp operated year-round by CYO/Camp Howard. We offer 8 weeks of residential youth camping during the summer from July through August. Camp rentals comprise the rest of the year including several weeks of Outdoor School, Girl Scout campouts, church picnics, family reunions and retreats.
