A year earlier in 1979, the Boudha Stupa became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along with Swayambhunath and Namo Buddha, it is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites for devout Buddhists, which also attracts tourists to the Kathmandu area.

Situated 8 km to the east of downtown Kathmandu, Boudha is one of the most imposing landmarks in Kathmandu, visible as soon as you land at the Tribhuvan International Airport. It is the largest stupa in the Kathmandu Valley and is the center of Himalayan Buddhism.

2023年5月1日 · A widow Tibetan woman named Jyajhima visited Khaasti in Nepal and was fascinated by the construction of chaitya. She and her sons later spread stories of their experience, and a painting of Jyajhima can be found on the Hariti/Mamala temple at Boudha.

The first stupa at Boudhanath was built sometime after AD 600, when the Tibetan king, Songtsen Gampo, converted to Buddhism. In terms of grace and purity of line, no other stupa in Nepal comes close to Boudhanath.
