Binah (meaning "understanding"; Hebrew: בִּינָה Bīnā) is the third sephira on the kabbalistic Tree of Life. It sits on the level below Keter (in the formulations that include that sephirah), across from Chokmah and directly above Gevurah. It is usually given four paths: from Keter, Chokmah, to Gevurah and Tiphereth. [1]

The second Sefirah is Binah. Binah means, “to understand or derive one matter out of another matter.” Binah takes the original idea and expands and develops it both in breadth and depth. It crystallizes and clarifies the details of the idea that were obscured in Chochmah. That which was in concentrate form is now revealed and understood.

Binah: Understanding – Differentiation into Particulars. Chochmah, Pure Mind, the Oneness, of everything, is separated and differentiated into details in Binah so that it is comprehensible. It is the level on which ideas exist separately and can be examined 11. Binah is the source of individual souls and all individualization and differentiation.

2014年2月10日 · Binah, or understanding, is the third of the ten sefirot, and the second conscious power of intellect in Creation. Binah appears in the configuration of the sefirot at the top of the left axis, and corresponds in the tzelem Elokim to the left hemisphere of the brain.

The sefirot are ten spheres or classes, as it is stated in Sefer Yetzira, "Ten and not nine; ten and not eleven." This is their order: keter (crown); chochma (wisdom); bina (understanding); chesed (kindness); gevura (might); tiferet (beauty); netzach (endurance); hod (splendor); yesod (foundation); malchut (kingship).

In modern Kabbalah there is a well developed notion of an Abyss between the three supernal sephiroth of Kether, Chokhmah, and Binah, and the seven lower sephiroth.
