I also use barn lime once or twice a year to keep the odors away. I try and keep the pea gravel 4-5 inches deep at minimum squared off with large timber 4"x6" 6"x6" etc. Easiest clean up I have ever experienced and it stays dry even when the ground around it is saturated.

Also I throw Hydrated Lime under the the wire on the ground, this really keeps the smell down and keeps the fly's away! I like that my dogs stay off the ground and out of thier own waste. _____ D.B.
