On the N63 engine, the individual vanes of the VANOS unit are no longer individual parts but rather they have been further developed to form an oscillating rotor (as on the N52 engine). The torsion spring integrated in the N62 VANOS unit is now designed as a coil spring accommodated on the front of the N63 VANOS unit protected by a plastic cover.

The "hot v layout" is now the configuration in most if not all of the high end V8s(Porsche, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari and more) and is not reserved only for V8s. The current 4.4L TTV8 is a masterpiece, owners love them. Stick with the most current version.

When healthy the N63 V8 is a monster putting down 445hp and 480 lb-ft of torque so give your dealer a call to make sure your N63 is in tip top shape.

Recently took it in to BMW service center and the guy said afterwards that the turbo coolant lines are leaking and it would cost around 6K to replace.
