The GE B39-8 is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation Systems. It is part of the GE Dash 8 Series of freight locomotives.

GE dubbed the cataloged variants as "Enhanced" Dash 8s (i.e., B39-8E) and these featured a cab flush with the roofline, lower nose, equipment blower and dynamic brakes that seamlessly melded into the carbody, and angled radiator vents.

The B39-8E ("E" meaning "Enhanced") is the improved or enhanced version of the original, and is considered to be the "slanted-cab", "wedged-cab", or "Spartan cab" version of the production B39-8. The "E" is often used to help distinguish from the original "round-cab" testbeds, as well as being an "Enhanced" version of the original.

A fourth example of the model, a GE demonstrator designated as a Dash 8-39BE (or B39-8E), was converted from the original Dash 8 prototype. There were also two much larger groups of this model: 102 Dash 8-39BEs were fabricated for Locomotive Management Services (Reporting mark: LMX) and placed on long term lease to Burlington Northern Railroad.

2023年12月30日 · GE made a large number of electrical and mechanical improvements after the first Dash-8 units were produced, which appeared in all production versions of the B32-8 and B39-8 introduced in 1987. Although these units sometimes have an "E" added at the end of the model name (as in "B39-8E") the builder's plate apparently lacked such a designation.
