The Atikamekw are an Indigenous people in Canada. Their historic territory, Nitaskinan ('Our Land'), is in the upper Saint-Maurice River valley of Quebec (about 300 kilometres (190 mi) north of Montreal ).

The Atikamekw are a Nation composed of approximately 7,000 people, living primarily in three reserves, namely Wemotaci, Manawan, and Opitciwan. Their ancestral territory, Nitaskinan, is located among the boreal forests and watersheds of the St. Maurice River in northcentral Quebec.

Atikamekw is a language belonging to the Cree–Montagnais–Naskapi linguistic continuum, which is part of the Central branch of the Algonquian languages of the Algic family of languages. It is sometimes classified as a dialect of Cree.

The Atikamekw advocate sustainable development through comprehensive resource management with all those who use the forest for social, environmental and economic purposes. In Wemotaci, they created the Services forestiers Atikamekw Aski, which carries out reforestation and silviculture activities and trains Atikamekw workers.
