The Anbu (暗部, English TV: Anbu Black Ops, literally meaning: Dark Side), short for Ansatsu Senjutsu Tokushu Butai (暗殺戦術特殊部隊, literally meaning: Special Assassination and Tactical Squad), are covert operatives of capable ninja that are dispatched by their village leader.

The issue isn’t ANBU, but the fact that every moment in Naruto involves either open war or entities that has tailed beast or divine-level powers. It is saying that an elite commando unit is weak because they cannot beat on their own a tank division or mechas jumping out of the sky.

Currently on S4 of my first time watching Naruto, and Anbu seem to be set up as these total badass top tier shinobi, but every time I see them on screen they’re getting there butts kicked. Am I just missing something, were they more powerful in the manga, or what? Nameless=Fodder. I think ANBU has been more CIA type operations.
