Governor Douglas employed Allison to locate and construct a trail linking the Similkameen and Tulameen areas, the "Allison trail", and in so-doing discovered this pass. (The route forms part of today's Hope-Princeton Highway.) In his later years Allison became a prosperous rancher and a Justice of the Peace.
