If you add AlCl3 to water, why does the pH decrease?
2017年4月30日 · $\begingroup$ @K.T. I am not quite sure about the mechanism here, but my best guess is actually that it is a mixture of both: The hydroxyl ions from dissociated $\ce{H2O}$ molecules attach to the aluminium, shifting the equilibrium of auto-dissociation, while other water molecules attach to the aluminium, gradually throwing away their protons.
inorganic chemistry - Reaction of aluminium trichloride with water ...
2017年7月25日 · Aluminum chloride is very soluble in water, according to wikipedia 44-49g/100ml water depending on the temperature, so you shouldn't expect any preciptation.
AlCl3 and water - Chemistry Stack Exchange
2022年1月22日 · $\begingroup$ For the purpose learning organic chemistry, the point to retain should be: water (or, any molecule with an $\ce{-OH}$ group) reacts with the Lewis acid $\ce{AlCl3}$ to quench it. In other words, count this former $\ce{AlCl3}$ out, it can no longer catalyze your Friedel-Crafts reaction.
Why does aluminium chloride react with water in 2 different ways?
2020年4月28日 · $\ce{AlCl3(s) + aq → [Al(H2O)6]^{3+}(aq) + 3 Cl -(aq) }$ This is followed by an acidic hydrolysis paralleling transition metals : The hexaqua complex ion behaves exactly like ions of similar type formed from transition metals; the small, highly charged metal ion polarises (withdraws electron density from) the water molecules that are attached ...
inorganic chemistry - Stoichiometry of the redox reaction with ...
2019年3月22日 · $\ce{2 Al(s) + 3 CuCl2 . 2 H2O (aq) → 3 Cu (s) + 2 AlCl3 (aq) + 6 H2O (l)}$ If we began the experiment with 0.99 g of Al, according to the stoichiometry of the reaction how much $\ce{CuCl2.2 H2O}$ should be used to complete the reaction without either reactant being in excess? Answer the following using the correct number of significant figures.
organic chemistry - What results from the reaction of 4 …
Please note that this is 4-phenylbutanoyl chloride: My guess was that another molecule of 4-phenylbutanoyl chloride would react with the phenyl, thus forming a structure like the one below: But this
Why do we have to use anhydrous AlCl3 in Gatterman-Koch …
2021年8月15日 · $\begingroup$ @TooTea The purpose of $\ce{AlCl3}$ is to act as a Lewis acid catalyst. Depending on the electron density of the aromatic system (Lewis basicity), the group to introduce to this ring by subsitution, reaction parameters (solvent, temperature, etc) it may be way too powerful (pyrroles, thiophenes) for a selective reaction and is replaced by less strong ones …
solubility - Can someone explain me the difference in boiling point …
2017年10月14日 · I have noticed (during an experiment) that the boiling point of the solutions created by H2O+KBr; H2O+CaCl2 and H2O+AlCl3 see their boiling point increase. During the experiment, I thought that, since every time the number of Ions dissociated in each solution increases, the boiling point of each solution should increase with the number of Ions ...
Is RCOOH + H2SO4 + heat a viable alternative to RCOCl + AlCl3 in ...
2022年4月25日 · Can concentrated strong acid like H₂SO₄ be used to protonate a carboxylic acid to RC(OH)₂⁺, forming RCO⁺ by removal of H₂O, analogous to the reaction with nitric acid to produce nitronium?
1.0 g of AlCl3 is added to 100.0 ml of water. What would be the ...
2020年5月20日 · $1.0\ \mathrm g$ of $\ce{AlCl3}$ is added to $100.0\ \mathrm{ml}$ of water. What would be the resulting pH? I think the answer may be $4.022$ but I'm not certain.
