Membrane keyboard robustness - Retrocomputing Stack Exchange
2018年8月10日 · Some early computers used a membrane keyboard (ZX80, ZX81, Atari 400), or semi-membrane with minimal keys (ZX Spectrum). Not just early ones. Membrane keyboards are still made and used today, usually for industrial use, as they have inherent advantages - like every design. This is because it was cheaper than a mechanical keyboard.
Why do PCs boot in 720x400 resolution? - Retrocomputing Stack …
2021年5月20日 · At 400 lines, it ran at 70 Hz, and at 480 lines, the refresh rate dropped to 60 Hz, which was flickery back in the time on many contemporary monitors. The 350-line EGA compatible mode ran at 70 Hz too (with longer blanking), because there was no need for higher refrehs rates at that time.
What monitor did Atari recommend for its 8 bit product line?
2017年5月23日 · I am curious what Atari recommended to users as an appropriate monitor for their 8 bit computers (400/800/800xl/etc). For example, my Commodore 64 pairs nicely with a Commodore manufactured 1702 or 1802 monitor. Likewise, my Amiga pairs with its 1080 or 1084. Even my Apple //e has a corresponding (green) monochrome monitor manufactured by Apple.

Set screen resolution in DOS-only PC - Retrocomputing Stack …
2019年5月23日 · I have tested the display on two different machines and the problem doesn't occur. Both of those machines have a 640 x 480 native screen resolution. The display menu shows the 'Problem Machine' to have a 720 x 400 screen resolution. I checked and the VIA Apollo PLE133T chipset with integrated graphics supports a 640 x 480 screen resolution.

2020年2月1日 · IBM PC software for 640 by 200 PELs can be directly displayed on a 640 by 400 PEL screen. (An 8 by 16 character font can be used, and can be displayed even in Double Scan Mode.) in the datasheet, I am pretty sure you want to reset that bit for a 640x400 mode (and you may need to adjust the other vertical timing registers).
Why did the Atari 800 designers choose such a radical system …
2017年4月30日 · (The Atari 400 and 800 were designed using a Cromemco S-100 system — I don’t know whether that had any direct impact though.) The Atari 800 has three main boards: the “motherboard” (containing POKEY, PIA, the memory decoder, and all the system connectors), the CPU board (containing the 6502, CTIA or GTIA, and ANTIC), and the power ...
