Aug 31, 2017 · I have no experience of AP1, but AP2 has been getting a lot better recently (as in over the last 6 months). It's still missing speed sign recognition, but otherwise I would imagine it is now well ahead of AP1 in terms of its driving algorithms and situational awareness. But in terms of basic functionality, nothing much has changed in the UK.

You may want to watch some demo videos online to help you understand how it works as it appears whomever sold you the car didn't do you any favors in terms of explaining things. Summary: you're good, no need to stress.

Jul 8, 2014 · Kind of surprised anyone on their third Tesla wouldn’t know AP1 cannot be upgraded to AP3 but just shows how confusing the various hardware configurations can be for even long time owners. My S just barely made the 2016 cutoff for AP2 but most AP1 owners seem happy with autopilot on their cars even though FSD is unavailable.
