The 8th Maintenance Group provides on- and off-equipment maintenance on F-16 Fighting Falcons. The group also provides munitions, aircraft maintenance and maintenance operations support. Squadrons assigned to the 8th MXG are the 35th Fighter Generation Squadron, the 80th Fighter Generation squadron and the 8th Maintenance Squadron.

Established in Japan after World War II in 1948, the wing flew combat missions throughout the Korean War. Redesignated the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing in 1958, it remained in Japan until 1964. After a year in California, it moved to Southeast Asia, where its F-4 Phantom II crews earned the nicknames "MiG killers" and "bridge busters".

8th Maintenance Squadron mission is to maintain the F16 C/D Aircraft in support of two combat ready fighter squadrons flying over 10,500 hours annually. Maintains engines, avionics, fuels, egress, aerospace ground equipment, transient alert, aircraft paint, calibration, munitions, fabrication, and armament systems support capabilities.
