2007年6月10日 · As for building a 550 h.p. 400 on pump gas, it's not impossible, but not something you would want as a daily driver. The new Chevy High Performance has a story on a pump gas small block that made decent power, but it looked kinda weak to me considering the tunnel ram and 2 carbs. Spend most of your budget on the heads.

2016年4月9日 · The 400 ci engines definitely make more horsepower and torque compared to the smaller cube small blocks. It's not unreasonable to get 400+ HP from a SBC 400 with high flowing modern heads, intake and carb with the proper cam shaft. I'm currently building a SBC 400 with 6 inch rods and an internally balanced bottom end.

2010年5月16日 · I know when boring a block of any type there can at anytime be issues. Core shift, casting issues always play a part. A SBC 400 block going .040 over, 4.165 bore. Is there common issues with this? .030 the max limit safe limit? thanks AL

2011年8月25日 · A 400 with a 509 block is what I'm running in Pandora's Box. :yes: Although mine is now a 408 and a far cry from what came out of the Chevy engine plant, if that 400 is a good deal.... GRAB IT! It'll be a good base for what you may want to do later. As far as the heads go, I'm sure that they are smoggers but will be fine for now.

2008年11月16日 · I finally put my engine back in my car and i need to time it with the timing light. What number of degrees am i looking for at idle? This is my first time timing an engine. I read somewhere that 14* at idle was close to factory specs. I have a SBC 400 with stock heads and internals and a edelbrock carb, intake manifold and a mild cam. Thanks-Blake

But, I'm selling the entire project. The block needs to be bored @ .040. The shortblock is still assembled with crank, rods and pistons. 200 obo"

With 2 sleeves next to each other in a 400 the bolt holes are a big problem. 400 bolt holes are a big problem in my opinion anyway. Several years ago I would on occasion install 8 high grade sleeves in some 400s used in class cars to try and improve ring seal above ...

2006年12月20日 · The 72 Impala 400 had 170 hp @3400 rpm and 325 ft lbs of torque @2000 rpm with 8.5:1 compression. The numbers I posted earlier were from 1970 passenger cars and were the gross figures most of us are more familiar with. 1971 started the decline of compression, the retarding of cam timing and the end of the high horsepower era.

2013年7月2日 · A boosted 400 sbc with a carb and basic TH350 or similar 1:1 final drive transmission is likely to get fairly horrendous gas mileage for a DD. The LSx and an overdrive transmission will get you closer to 20 mpg.

2014年8月31日 · I have a 400 SB for my nova that needs complete rebuild. I do have some performance parts such as aluminum heads, roller rockers, new intake and carb etc, but will need built completely. I am considering a 5.3 or 6.0 with 4l60/80 trans truck motor as well.
