The 1979 World Series was the championship series of Major League Baseball's (MLB) 1979 season. The 76th edition of the World Series was a best-of-seven playoff between the National League (NL) champion Pittsburgh Pirates (98–64) and the American League (AL) champion Baltimore Orioles (102–57).

In a rematch of the '71 Fall Classic, Pittsburgh and Baltimore found themselves once again facing each other for baseball's most prestigious title. The Orioles came out strong in Game 1 with five runs in the first inning including a two-run blast by Doug DeCinces.
