2008年3月30日 · You're right about the RPM's, Rukee. But a 421 rev's lower than a 389, and makes more power at lower RPM's. While a 3.55 is the standard gear for a 389 equipped stickshift 3400 pound GTO, the usual gearset for a big Pontiac with a 421 and stickshift seems to be 3.42 or 3.36. 3.55 was considered the best "all-around gear" in the GTO back then.....

2008年7月13日 · First thing you should do is order the PHS Documents and verify the 65 is an actual GTO. If your car was built in the Pontiac or Kansas City plant the data plate will include an accessory code for the GTO option. The first numbers to verify and compare would be the date codes on the car, block, heads, transmission and rear end.

2009年12月15日 · The PHS documents call it a Tempest GTO, Pontiac Historic Services - 1965 GTO Order Form - Page 1 The only way to tell if the car is a true GTO is to order the PHS documents using the VIN number and compare those documents to the vehicle color, build date and options listed on the data plate.

In 1965, Pontiac produced 8,319 coupes, 55,722 hardtops and 11,311 convertibles. I thought my post-less two door GTO was a coupe, now I wonder if it is really the hardtop ( since they were more popular). I tried a VIN decoder site, but it was no help.

2008年11月26日 · Too Many: '65 AND '66 GTO's both used real walnut veneer on their dashes. '67 used vinyl, but this thread is about '65 and '66 GTO's. I prefer the narrow, gauge-width facia of the '65 dash, with all that cool ribbed chrome below the dash, matching the console.
