The NCP is a four-step approach to nutrition problem solving and care that is designed to guide and illuminate the work of RDs. Since its adoption by the dietetics profession in 2003, three of the fours steps of the process — diagnosis, intervention, and monitoring and evaluation — have been elaborated in book form (1).

What is the Nutrition Care Model? The Nutrition Care Model is a graphic visualization that illustrates the steps of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) as well as internal and external factors that impact application of the NCP. The central component of the Model is the relationship of the target patient, client, or group and the RD.

Approximately 30 registered dietitians (RDs), full time and part time, provide nutritional care to UMHHC inpatients. These dietitians also precept 12 dietetic interns as part of a 10-month dietetic internship.
