Within the project's shared fictional universe, the SCP Foundation is a secret organization that is responsible for capturing, containing, and studying various paranormal, supernatural, and other mysterious phenomena (known as "anomalies" or "SCPs" [c]), while also keeping their existence hidden from the rest of society.

The SCP Wiki is a collaborative speculative fiction website about the SCP Foundation, a secretive organization that contains anomalous or supernatural items and entities away from the eyes of the public — or so it may appear. The wiki is a collaborative effort made possible by the contributions of hundreds of authors.

The SCP Universe (or sometimes SCP Multiverse) is a shared fictional setting which originated from the written works of the SCP Foundation Wiki. The SCP Universe consists of countless stories written by many different authors; mixing the horror, science fiction, and urban fantasy genres together.

Within the website’s fictional setting, the SCP Foundation is a secret organization entrusted by governments around the globe to contain and study anomalous individuals, entities, locations, objects, and phenomena that operate outside the bounds of natural law (referred to as “SCP objects,” or colloquially as “SCPs”).

There has been no concrete evidence as to their continued existence, as it has widely been accepted by the anomalous community that members of the O5 Council founded the organization themselves. Though, some fringe members and even a few Foundation employees believe that they exist or existed at one point.
