The M17A2 is the standard-A field mask. It is a modification of the M17A1 mask and has no resuscitation tube. Both masks have the following items: A voicemitter to facilitate communication. A tube for drinking water from the canteen while masked. Two outserts to protect the eye lenses and to prevent fogging in low temperatures.

The M17A2 U.S. Army gas mask is best known for it's heavy use in the Gulf War. When ground fighting in the the Middle-East started, the M17A2 was still the Army's GI standard mask. In 1983, the M17A1 was changed to the M17A2, after an extra small size was introduced.
