2024年1月11日 · There are some special cases (15 at the moment) of muds that don't have MSSP but the worker uses some workarounds to fetch game information (basically, # of connected players). There are 2 main workarounds: a dummy character connects to the mud, types "who" and count players and the other is fetch player count information from a webpage.

Many MUDs can feel like variations of the same game. I think the successful "traditional' MUDs are the ones that gained critical mass of players for one reason or the other, leaving it hard for the many similar MUDs to compete with them, while the other MUDs that become successful are those that both offer something different and are well made.

2012年11月21日 · MUDs tend to lean more towards your hack'n'slash type gameplay, with coded systems for combat, interaction, etc. While roleplay is possible, a lot tend to eschew roleplaying for gaming, but not all. MUCKs tend to have little coding for systems, being more freeform. They also tend to focus more upon roleplay or social aspects.

2023年1月24日 · This is a pretty old-school take on things. There's nothing wrong with your take imo. But most games (not muds, just games in general) have online communities where people get on Discord or some other platform and wax enthusiastic about their games of choice with other people who get it, so wanting the same thing for this type of game makes sense to me.

There are also MUDs like God Wars 2 with an incredible deep and nuanced combat system unrivaled by anything but the most hardcore competitive fighting games (and even then IMO God Wars 2 takes the cake) I will, however, say that while some MUDs have incredible combat systems basically only a handful actually have interesting skill/spell systems.

2023年9月1日 · Many MUDs didn't even have a website with a discussion forum, so the only way to exchange thoughts and ideas was through in-game interaction and communication channels. The whole concept of RPGs was in its infancy. Prior to MUDs, there wasn't much more than actual D&D and some very primitive video games like Rogue and its derivatives.

Both MUDs kind of suffered from an over-focus on PvP/PK, though, in particular GEAS. Another MUD that was recommended was Harshlands. I never played it intensively so I can not judge, but you can test each MUD.
