2012年6月20日 · A long long time ago there did use to be three independent source ports called jDoom, jHeretic and jHexen. Merging the common functionality into a unified engine plus plugin architecture resulted in what is known as the Doomsday Engine.

Doomsday (also called the Doomsday Engine) is a source port, presently developed by project founder Jaakko Keränen (skyjake). Former developers include Jamie Jones (Yagisan) and Daniel Swanson (DaniJ). The team is collectively known as deng team. It supports multiple id Tech 1 games through a plugin/core architecture.

Doomsday itself is a multi-game supporting engine and developed along with it are numerous plugins; e.g. game plugins which are necessary to actually play a game using it. Four official plugins are being developed by the core deng team alongside the engine: jDoom, jHeretic, jHexen and recently, jDoom64.

2021年9月13日 · JDoom was the eye-candy port of its day, but it was limited to Vanilla. Eventually, people wanted more support (resulting in Boomsday/JBoom and Risen3D) or more extensive moddability, of which ZDoom and then GZDoom took over.

Doomsday is a source port maintained by Jaakko Keränen and Daniel Swanson. It started as a Hexen port, jHexen, but evolved to be a general Doom engine port.
