Dec 23, 2006 · Had a 75 MX 400, 76 YZ 400, 82 490, 87 490. I never checked compression once. After blowing the YZ and MX 400 up twice I went to a 32:1 and ran a bit rich. I would run them in Jawbone on the biggest hills in the heat of late spring and had no problems, New piston and ring every year- stock.

Feb 28, 2011 · The new water cooled 490 hopefully will put those bad memories to rest. The vibration issue was one I recall hearing about, that has been solved with new thicker aluminum motor mounts, and head stays.

Jan 18, 2011 · My 490 will be getting the head cut as soon as the motor is opened up. Needs some small things but from the looks of the bike it isnt in too bad of shape. I plan on finishing my 86 xr250 dual sport bike before the yz490 project build begins!
