Yorkshire Day is a yearly celebration on 1 August to promote the historic county of Yorkshire, in England. [1] It was celebrated by the Yorkshire Ridings Society in 1975, initially in Beverley, as "a protest movement against the local government re-organisation of 1974".

The date alludes to the Battle of Minden, and also the anniversary of the emancipation of slaves in the British Empire in 1834, for which a Yorkshire MP, William Wilberforce, had campaigned.

The Yorkshire Society is on a mission to make Yorkshire Day a day when the whole region shows the world how proud we are to be Yorkshire. So, we organise the centrepiece of Yorkshire Day when all our civic leaders, VIP guests and members of the Society are invited to gather in a host town or city, to mark this special day.
