Wooded meadows (also named wood-meadows, park meadows, etc.) are ecosystems in temperate forest regions. They are sparse natural stands with a regularly mowed herbaceous layer. While frequent throughout Europe during the Medieval period and before, wooded meadows have largely disappeared.

Wooded meadows were widespread traditional seminatural ecosystems, particularly abundant in the countries around the Baltic Sea until the middle of this century. They represented a perfect example of green management, with a very long-term and stable multifunctional use of land.

Nedrema Nature Reserve is a nature reserve situated in south-western Estonia, in Pärnu County. The area was granted protection in 1991, and was designated a nature reserve in 2007. It is situated between two bogs and consists of damp woodland. The Nedrema wooded meadow, situated in the reserve, is Europe's largest traditional managed wooded meadow.

In the course of the project, it is planned to restore overgrown wooded meadow areas on a total of 700 hectares - 500 ha in Estonia and 200 ha in Latvia. With the support of the project, 74 hectares of wooded meadows have been returned to our landscape by the 2025, in addition to which another 70 hecatres are being restored.

The Wooded meadows comprise an ecosystem of natural wooded areas with a regularly mown or grazed herb layer. They provided hay, wood, berries, mushrooms and hazelnuts, and had also a strong impact on the formation of Estonian ancient religious beliefs and rituals.
