WGU was the best thing that has happened to me academically. I was already a Director of IT and have worked in the field for 30 years. I had an associates in Economics but didn't have the time to go back to B&M schools. Life got busy and school dropped to the wayside. I finally found WGU and enrolled for a BS in IT Management.

WGU is regionally accredited by NWCUU which means getting a degree from WGU is like getting a degree from Univ of Wash, Univ of Oregon, BYU, Boise State, Gonzaga, UNLV, etc so its the farthest thing from a scam.

WGU student here: not a scam. What you shouldn’t do is pay attention to the posts that go on to say they completed an entire degree in a year. They either transferred in a shit ton of classes from Sophia or they’ve had decades of experience in a given field and are just able to take assessments because they live it on a daily.

Finally, look for information about information security. I took a WGU course on this which was very helpful. If you don't have it on your degree plan, look for similar courses. Don't click suspicious links. Verify suspicious emails by reaching out to the appropriate authority directly. In this case, you would call or email WGU IT.

Many classes you took probably didn't have an equivalent in the WGU version of the degree. Especially if your first two years at a B&M were heavy on the gened classes. Others are only applicable if they were completed within a certain time frame. 2019 was five years ago and some may no longer qualify based on age.

The reason why WGU feels easier than the traditional model is because you focus on only one class at a time rather than taking on 4-6 classes, the material and requirements for passing are not any easier than any brick and mortar school I've ever attend
