Volcanic explosivity index - Wikipedia
The volcanic explosivity index (VEI) is a scale used to measure the size of explosive volcanic eruptions. It was devised by Christopher G. Newhall of the United States Geological Survey and Stephen Self in 1982.
Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) - U.S. National Park Service
2022年8月5日 · The Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) is a scale that describes the size of explosive volcanic eruptions based on magnitude and intensity. The numerical scale (from 0 to 8) is a logarithmic scale, and is generally analogous to the Richter and other magnitude scales for the size of earthquakes.

VEI 2 eruptions produce between 0.001 and 0.01 cubic kilometers of ejecta. VEI 3 eruptions produce between 0.01 and 0.1 cubic kilometers of ejecta. The progression of the scale from VEI 0 to VEI 8 is shown in the diagram on this page.
The Volcanic Explosivity Index: A tool for comparing the sizes of ...
2022年12月26日 · A common scale for expressing the size of an explosive volcanic eruption is the VEI—Volcanic Explosivity Index. Eruption size can’t be determined by instruments, so this scale is based on a combination of measurements and observations.
Category:VEI-3 eruptions - Wikipedia
Volcanic eruptions that rated 3 on the volcanic explosivity index. Such eruptions release a tephra volume of at least 0.01 km 3 (0.0024 cu mi) with noticeable effects on the surrounding area. For smaller volcanic eruptions that have produced at least 0.01 km 3 (0.0024 cu mi) of tephra at a time, see Category:VEI-2 eruptions .
Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI)
The Volcanic Explosivity Index gives us a way to measure the relative explosiveness of volcanic eruptions. It measures how much volcanic material is ejected, the height of the material thrown into the atmosphere, and how long the eruptions last.
