A common cancer at the site of the vaccination is the aggressive fibrosarcoma although other malignant cancers can develop as well – histiocytomas, osteosarcomas, liposarcomas, chondrosarcomas and so on. These cancers are rarely found in cats that have not been vaccinated.

Non-vaccine associated STS are uncommon in cats; VAS develop in areas of inflammation induced by adjuvanted vaccine products; VAS is histologically similar to traumatically-induced ocular sarcoma

Any breed, age or gender of cat that receives a vaccine may develop injection site sarcomas. A small, painless swelling sometimes develops at the site of a recent vaccination or injection. The lump should disappear within several weeks.
