Van Hool NV (Dutch pronunciation: [vɑn ˈɦoːl]) was a Belgian coachbuilder and manufacturer of buses, coaches, trolleybuses, and trailers. Most of the buses and coaches were built entirely by Van Hool, with engines and axles sourced from Caterpillar, Cummins, DAF and MAN and gearboxes from ZF or Voith.

The long-established Belgian bus manufacturer Van Hool filed for creditor protection in March 2024, and the competent district court confirmed the declaration of bankruptcy on 8 April. We take a deeper look into the company’s history and development over time.

2024年4月9日 · Belgian manufacturer Van Hool has entered bankruptcy, creating around 1,600 job losses. VDL has made a binding offer to take on the bus and coach manufacturing aspect of Van Hool, while GRW (a partner company of German company Schmitz Cargobull) is to take over the trailer building business.

Van Hool introduced its AG280 articulated bus, which was based on the A120. Van Hool launched its midi buses AU141 and AU138. Together with the AG280, these buses formed the basis for the future development of the low-floor concept. Van Hool launched its very first tank container, the beginning of a success story.
