VAX 8000 - Wikipedia
Code-named "Nautilus", this is the high-end model in the VAX 8800 family. It features two CPUs and two VAXBI buses as standard. The VAX 8800 CPU is a heavily pipelined design, slightly predating the first commercial MIPS and SPARC designs. Development of the VAX 8800 began in August–November 1982 and it was introduced on 29 January 1986. [1]

The VAX 8800 is a dual-CPU version of the VAX 8700. (The designation 'VAX 8800' is occasionally used for the whole first generation of VAX 8800 computers - correctly called VAX 8800 Family - as well, leading to confusion sometimes.) It belongs to the first generation of VAX 8800 computers, which includes four more models: VAX 8500; VAX 8530 ...

Pipelining and performance in the VAX 8800 processor
The VAX 8800 family (models 8800, 8700, 8550), currently the fastest computers in the VAX product line, achieve their speed through a combination of fast cycle time and deep pipelining. Rather than pipeline highly variable VAX instructions as such, the 8800 design pipelines uniform microinstructions whose addresses are generated by instruction ...
The top-of-the-line VAX 8800, Digital's highest performance system, delivers 9 to 12 times the power of the standard VAX-11/780 system for both compute intensive and interactive/multiuser environments. Applications such as simulation, analysis, design, and complex modeling run extremely well on the VAX 8800.
VAX 85xx, 87xx, and 88xx systems - Computer History Wiki - Gunkies
There are two generations of VAX 8800 Family models: While the first-generation VAX 8700 and VAX 8800 systems supported Asymmetric Multiprocessing (ASMP) for dual CPUs, the second-generation models introduced Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) with up to four processors in conjunction with VMS V5.0.

2003年7月17日 · This is an (incomplete) list of Digital Equipment Corporation VAX computers and specifications. Compiled by [email protected] with much help from [email protected] users. This is very much still a work in progress - many sections are little more than placeholders. Having said that, there should be enough here to prove useful.

Introduction of the top-of-the-line VAX 8800 and the midrange VAX 8300 and VAX 8200. The VAX 8800, VAX 8300 and VAX 8200 were the first VAX systems to support dual processors. Each machine incorporated a new high-performance I/O bus, the VAXBI. The high-performance VAX 8800 achieved application throughput of two to three times the VAX 8600.
