For example, it is common to say a Unimog 406, which means a Unimog truck that is refered to his model series. When we say an Unimog U1300, we refer to the type of Unimog.

At the beginning, inventive spirit and a brilliant idea led to the creation of the unmistakeable vehicle we know today as the Unimog: rugged underpinnings with a versatile range of applications, all packaged in a single vehicle which is as suitable for daily operations as anyone could ever wish for.

The Unimog U 401 and 402 model series. From 1953 Daimler-Benz manufactured the new Unimog 400 model series in Gaggenau. While the wheelbase on the U 401 was still 1720 mm, the U 402 was introduced as an extended variant with a wheelbase measuring 2120 mm.
