Thutmose I (sometimes read as Thutmosis or Tuthmosis I, Thothmes in older history works in Latinized Greek; meaning " Thoth is born") was the third pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty of Egypt. He received the throne after the death of the previous king, Amenhotep I.

King of the Eighteenth Dynasty, one of the most important rulers of the New Kingdom. The relation of Thutmose I to his predecessor is not known, but it seems that he was not the son of Amenhotep I. His mother was a woman called Seniseneb, also of unknown origins.

Although he was not a member of the Ahmosid family, Thutmose I became king after Amenhotep I died without an heir. Probably one of the previous monarch’s generals, he came to the throne around the age of 40 and is thought to have ruled for a little over ten years.
