As the 1960s drew to a close, 'Top of the Pops' broadcast its inaugural color episode on November 24, 1969. Johnny Stewart, made the prudent decision to record and archive every 'Top of the Pops' episode produced after June 1967.

Top of the Pops broadcast for the first time on TVs across the nation on Wednesday, 1st January 1964, at 6:35 p.m. on BBC Television. Music would never be the same again. 1964 was dominated by the British Invasion led by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Animals.

1997 Episode Guide The year of big change at TOTP, with another new executive producer and tweaks to the show. Pop and dance music took centre stage on the nation’s favourite music show, and it was the year a grieving nation gave Elton the biggest selling single of the 90s.

Top of the Pops celebrated the end of the 1980s with a special episode, 'Review of the 80s', which saw numerous 80s artists return to the TOTP studio to perform their biggest 80s hits. With the 80s drawing to a close, the 90s were calling and TOTP entered what was perhaps the show's most troubled era…

1996 Episode Guide. Football anthems, a worldwide dance craze, and farewells headlined pop in 1996. Take That said goodbye (for the time being), and the battle of Britpop was far from over, and to top it off TOTP moved from it's traditional Thursday slot to Friday evenings.

1983 Episode Guide. TOTP marks it's 1000th episode with a host of famous faces. But the rise of the music video starts to threaten the show's unique appeal, with dance troupe 'Zoo' throwing their final pose.
