Tioga is a town in Grayson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,142 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Sherman – Denison Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named for the Tioga Native American tribe of New York. [5]

Founded in 1881, Tioga is situated in northern Texas on the joint track of th e T. and P. and M.K.T. railroads, 31 miles southwest of Sherman and 6 miles north of Pilot Point. In 1882, the first building constructed was a grocery store and the first school house was a one-room frame building.
