First, raw wool is brought into Nepal from Tibet. Tibetan sheep live at high altitudes in extreme conditions and are known for producing some of the finest (lanolin-rich, strongly-fibered) wool in the world.

After years of development, Tibet Rug Company offers a stunning line of Soumaks. These versatile and stylish rugs are hand woven in India in traditional designs with 100% New Zealand wool.

Tibet Rug Company is a joint venture between Jim Webber of Foothill Oriental Rugs in Salt Lake City, Utah and Tibetan refugees involved in carpet manufacturing in Kathmandu, Nepal.

It is important to note that since the Chinese invasion and the subsequent nationalization of the rug weaving industry in Tibet, the best quality Tibetan rugs currently being manufactured on a commercial scale are those produced in Nepal by Tibetan refugees.
