The Thuringii, or Thuringians were a Germanic people [1] who lived in the kingdom of the Thuringians that appeared during the late Migration Period south of the Harz Mountains of central Germania, a region still known today as Thuringia.

The name Thuringia or Thüringen derives from the Germanic tribe Thuringii, who emerged during the Migration Period. Their origin is largely unknown. An older theory claims that they were successors of the Hermunduri, but later research rejected the idea.

Thuringii / Kingdom of Thuringia AD 400 - 531. The Thuringians are thought to have been mainly of Anglian stock from what is now lower Denmark. Their kingdom was formed during the collapse of the Roman empire, when Angles migrated southwards from Angeln and settled in central Germany between the Main and the Harz.

2016年5月15日 · Some speculate that they are identical with a tribe the romans called Hermanduri and that the name Thuringii comes from that "-duri". It later fell under the frankish empire. Christianisation happedn quite late around 800 ac. The leaders of the Thuringii were not as land based as others and farmers were mostly free.

2011年8月14日 · Thuringia was the area which lay to the east of the Merovingian kingdom of Austrasia. Kings of Thuringia in the 5th century are named by Gregory of Tours, who also records that the Merovingian kings Theoderic I and Clotaire I invaded and conquered the territory in 531.
