The Trans Europ Express, or Trans-Europe Express (TEE), was an international first-class railway service in western and central Europe that was founded in 1957 and ceased in 1995.

The Trans Europe Express was the first international railway service to link up major cities in western Europe with high-speed trains, crossing borders with minimal stops and disruption and allowing business people and wealthy travellers to travel from one country to another and back again within a single day.

The former director of the Dutch national railways, ir F.Q. den Hollander proposed a new plan for an international network of fast and luxurious (diesel) trainsets in western Europe. The railway companies of Western Germany (DB), France (SNCF), Switserland (SBB-CFF-FFS), Italy (FS) and the Netherlands (NS) agreed on this plan.

In Germany the sensation was the blue/cream colored "Rheingold" off 1962, the first train with American style vista-domes, designed mainly under responsibility by engineer Dr. Mielich. It replaced the blue Rheingold, which had been introduced in 1951. Later the new Rheingold was classified as TEE train, now painted red/cream.

The primary function of the Dutch/Swiss TEE was providing the once daily Edelweiß service, each way between Amsterdam & Zurich via Basle, Luxembourg and Brussells.
