Taoism or Daoism ( / ˈ t aʊ. ɪ z əm / ⓘ, / ˈ d aʊ. ɪ z əm / ⓘ) is a diverse philosophical and religious tradition indigenous to China, emphasizing harmony with the Tao (Chinese: 道; pinyin: dào; Wade–Giles: tao 4).
