The taifas (from Arabic: طائفة ṭā'ifa, plural طوائف ṭawā'if, meaning "party, band, faction") were the independent Muslim principalities and kingdoms of the Iberian Peninsula (modern Portugal and Spain), referred to by Muslims as al-Andalus, that emerged from the decline and fall of the Umayyad Caliphate of Córdoba between 1009 and 1031.

The Taifa of Valencia (Arabic: طائفة بلنسية) was a medieval Muslim kingdom which existed in and around Valencia, Spain. It gained independence from the Caliphate of Córdoba circa 1010 and became its own small kingdom, or Taifa, for most of the 11th century.

2022年5月13日 · Known as taifas (from Arabic "party" or "faction"), numerous mini-states (as many as 50 according to some scholars) emerged, existing in constant turmoil and competition as, gradually, only about half a dozen remained grouped around the larger cities: Zaragoza, Valencia, Toledo, Badajoz, Seville, and Granada.

The most famous of the Taifa kingdoms were in Al-Andalus and Seville. The height of the Taifa kingdoms were in the 11th century and in the mid 12th (when the Almoravid rulers were in decline). There was competition amongst the Taifa kingdoms for cultural prestige and therefore these areas saw an influx of talented artistic and literary figures.
