When applying for SULI for this spring, I put PNNL as first choice and they gave prospective mentors a week or two to pick applicants (Oct 26). When I wasn't selected, my application got moved on to ORNL, my second choice, and a research mentor promptly reached out (Nov 10).

I didn't see any other threads specifically about SULI so I decided to make one. Decisions should be coming out around now for the summer session. I'm a sophomore majoring in physics at a large public university with a 3.819 GPA.

suli 2024 dilemma EDIT: i have ultimately decided to accept this offer. the reasoning was that the project has a lot of fundamental similarities to my current research back home, and i figured that i could highly benefit from working on a sort of similar project.

2021年6月10日 · Not doing SULI but instead a pretty similar internship rn at a national lab. Only a few weeks in; so far I’ve had fairly easy tasks to do but my mentors kept me engaged in the full project, and I’m enjoying it a lot! Lmk if you have any specific questions

2018年2月8日 · I worked at a national lab (Berkeley) for 4 years, and spent one summer there as a SULI intern. Overall, I thought the SULI experience was definitely valuable in terms of working directly under someone in your field, and having structure for your research/projects. I would do have done it again for the experience alone.

SULI is an ill-executed program You would think that a government program that offers thousands of internships yearly would have stuff figured out, but it seems that is not the case. This is as much rant as it is a warning to students embarking on this path --- if you receive an acceptance to a lab through the program, don't take it for granted ...

From my experience, the interview is very straightforward through SULI/CCI. Your mentor will get on a call and explain the project you will be doing and see if it is good fit for you. Anyway, I have a question about the first essay. The first essay asks for us to describe our research experience, including level of independence, while working on a complex projects in a team.
