He has secured the services of Strix on a few occasions by use of a cheaply-acquired infernal contract with the Skizziks written long before Strix was born. So, he would have refused the Waffle Crew, which likely would have led to Evelyn attacking him. Strix panics, causes an explosion, and Evelyn is sucked through the portal into the first layer of Hell.
