Spiperone (Spiroperidol; brand name: Spiropitan ) is a typical antipsychotic and research chemical belonging to the butyrophenone chemical class. [1] It is licensed for clinical use in Japan as a treatment for schizophrenia. [2]

Spiperone is an azaspiro compound that is 1,3,8-triazaspiro[4.5]decane which is substituted at positions 1, 4, and 8 by phenyl, oxo, and 4-(p-fluorophenyl)-4-oxobutyl groups, respectively. It has a role as a dopaminergic antagonist, a serotonergic antagonist, an alpha-adrenergic antagonist, an antipsychotic agent and a psychotropic drug.
