Southern Pacific GP38-2 4802 was on a transfer run from the CSX to the SP at New Orleans. It had been built in May 1980 and was renumbered Union Pacific 566 in October 2000. This westbound Southern Pacific transfer run was in New Orleans, on its way from the CSX’s GENTILLY YARD to the SP’s AVONDALE YARD.

The EMD GP38 [1] is a four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between January 1966 and December 1971. The locomotive's prime mover was an EMD 645 16-cylinder engine that generated 2,000 horsepower (1.49 MW). The company built 706 GP38s for North American railroads. [2]

Modeling an SP GP38-2 is not as straight forward as I originally said here. These units were not only delivered with most options (as per normal SP practice), like 'L' shaped engineers windows, anticlimbers and 'light shows', but also had the larger 3000 gallon fuel tank and 'Q' radiator fans.

OPC has sourced 3 GP38-2s from the Southern Pacific Railroad. The unit numbers are 3008-3010. These GP38-2s are configured as follows: All lights fitted on the SP locomotives still function and are used. Paint scheme is the same as the new built GP38-2s.
