More F7 units arrived starting in December 1949 and continuing thru to July 1953. These were numbered in the new singular unit series, and delivered to SP, SSW and T&NO. Southern Pacific originally numbered F units in sets of four, with one number and an alpha suffix.

2021年5月4日 · As an illustration, the photo below (Morris Abowitz photo, Bill Sheehan collection) shows two F7-B units in 1962. As was standard, the only readable lettering is the unit number. Road names were not applied to B units. Both these units have a diamond stenciled above the unit number, indicating the presence of cyclone-type spark arrestors.

The largest F7 fleets were Southern Pacific’s (530) and Santa Fe’s (472), although the latter was in a sense two fleets, the Warbonnet red/silver passenger or dual-service units and the blue/yellow freight fleet.
