Re: SP 4449 and 4460 whistle question Author: Hillcrest Al, to answer the other part of your question sources close to the project say 4449 will be pulling the Holiday Express this year, so I wouldn't be surprised to see her out and about in late fall.

2025年3月29日 · S.P. only two roller-bearing steam locomotives, class GS-5 SP 4458 (Timken) and SP 4459 (SKF). Everything else had oil-lubricated driving-box journals with spring-pad lubricators (basically a wick system with springs pushing the oily "carpet" pad against the bottom of the axle journal), or hard-grease-block lubrication.

Three pictures, one shows SP 4460 before it was put in RR museum, another has luggage carts waiting for train (long before luggage had wheels). I you look carefully a geep can be seen on the station platform in the third picture. J. Brown 1960 may be too early, 1966?

5 天之前 · 4460, like many other steamers, has a chance of running again but its highly unlikely for many reasons. 1) 4449 already is up and running, and it can probably be painted or modified to represent other engines of its class, other paint schemes or other classes except the GS-1.
