It will take more salt to do the job as an anti-icer than a de-icer. But there is the risk that an event will come as rain which will simply melt the salt and be a wasted expense.

I had them stacked on a skid and covered up but still most are ruined. So it struck me that there has to be a way to chop these up so I can use them and not just throw them away and buy more.

2005年12月5日 · You might want to try pelletized lime. Make sure it is dark in color. The lime will absorb heat from the sun and melt ice and snow. It's not as effective as salt or even fertil;izer but it is the most organic way to go and it'll give a little traction. Golf courses use it on their greens when they ice over. Good luck with it.

2014年3月1日 · Here in Indianapolis most distributors are out of ice melt and rock salt altogether, some of the big box hardware stores have limited supply of salt/ice melt and solar salt available. walmart usually has solar salt as well at a reasonable price, 4.60 for 40# bags. never tried the big pellets, my tgs wouldnt agree with that.

2009年1月21日 · When I use pickled sand, I use 5:1 ratio sand/salt mix and it melts off well in high traffic areas. If you get lots of sun the darker sand also attracts the sun's heat and helps to melt the snow pack underneath the layer of sand/salt. I think most people who request sand/salt mix are not looking for black, wet surfaces they want traction.
