The Sishen mine is a large iron mine located in central South Africa in Kathu, Northern Cape. Sishen represents one of the largest iron ore reserves in South Africa and in the world having estimated reserves of 2.43 billion tonnes of ore grading 58.6% iron metal.

2024年8月29日 · Kumba has now completed a full technical review of its ultra-high-dense-media-separation (UHDMS) processing technology project at its Sishen mine in the Northern Cape of South Africa.

The Sishen mine exploits one of the largest Banded Iron Formation (BIF) deposits in the world. Hematite is the primary ore mineral and according to Stoch et al. (2018) the deposit occurs along a strike length of 14 km, with a width of 3.2 km and a maximum vertical extent of 400 m below the original topographic surface.
