2021年5月27日 · The "Fu" in "ShiFu" seems to have two different possible meanings depending on which hanzi/character you interpret the word to have. The first "Fu"(父) has the meaning of "father." Ergo, ShiFu has sort of a meaning of "teacher dad" if you go with the first interpretation and to some a ShiFu is like a father figure or almost like extended family.

In Mandarin, "hao" means "good", and is used as a greeting. (As in "ni hao". "Ni" means "you", but can also be replaced by a title, in this case Shifu.) The end of class phrase is probably "shi fu xin ku le". Literally, it means that Shifu has worked hard, but the implication is that you are thanking them for their hard work.

Shifu sometimes told me to follow tai chi classes as well, as it would make my movements more fluid. An opportunity to train tai chi with a good, proper trainer came up, and I took it. I learned a lot from that, which I incorporated into my main training as well, but that nagging feeling of something essential missing never went away.

2015年4月10日 · I started taking kung fu lessons from my shifu around 2 months back. However, I have yet to achieve a full 180 degree leg split. When I attempt this, my inner thighs and outer hips hurt a lot. I am able to stretch only to 130 degree, so my kicks do not reach the required height as desired by my teacher.
